Regulators of Transportation System in Indonesia

Map of the location of the Ministry of Transportation Republic of Indonesia

In the present day, the mobilization of human beings no longer know the limits. They can go through the various areas because of adequate transportation such as land transportation, sea transportation and air transportation. In Indonesia, the transport system is under the control of the Ministry of Transportation Republic of Indonesia.
There are four (4) general directorates in the Ministry of Transportation Republic of Indonesia, namely
  1. Directorate General of Land Transportation
  2. Directorate General of Sea Transportation
  3. Directorate General of Civil Aviation
  4. Directorate General of Railways
If we are going to discuss air transportation in Indonesia, then we must involve the Ministry of Transportation Republic of Indonesia, Directorate general of civil aviation in particular. Directorate general of civil aviation , Ministry of Transportation Republic of Indonesia  Headquarters is located in downtown Jakarta, close to the National Monuments.
Inside the building, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the top, between floors 16 to 20. If you have a purpose related to law and policy to come into the legal Division of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, MoT Republic of Indonesia.

How airplanes can fly

The plane is a masterpiece of human in the field of technology. Why can call it that? because through these flying objects man could make the shift from one place to another easily and quickly even to outer space. This thing is very big contribution to development in the world. The working principle of this object is very similar to bird flight. Indeed this also underlies the creation of this flying objects by the discoverer. We may wonder, what caused the plane can fly? There are four forces acting on the thrust plane (B), drag (D), lift (A), and weight (C). when the plane moves, the shape of the airfoil means that air must cover more distance over the wing in the same time as air under the wing. This must mean that air travels faster over the wing. Faster air has less pressure than the slower higher pressure air under the wing. This pressure imbalance is lift. When the plane is at critical velocity (v1), lift equals weight. A few secon later, lift is more than weight and the plane lifts off the ground.

Know the aircraft fuel

aviation gasoline (AVGAS) is the fuel of the kerosene fraction that is designed as a fuel for aircraft that use engines that have internal combustion Engine, piston machine or engine that works with the principle of reciprocal with the ignition / combustion. AVGAS is a mixture of components derived from crude oil with a synthetic hydrocarbon that certain additives in blending with the elements / chemicals such as tetraethyl lead, inhibitors and dyes in small quantities. This type of fuel has a very high octane rating specific to aircraft engine which has a high compression level. AVGAS performance is primarily determined by an anti-knock characteristics indicated by the octane number to a value below 100 and also the achievements of performance above 100. Level / grade AVGAS in principle determined by the octane rating that indicates the level of performance / fuel performance. AVGAS has a nature very volatile and highly flammable at normal temperatures. Therefore, procedures and equipment used in the safe handling of this product should be given serious attention. AVGAS must have a freezing point (freeze point) a maximum of -58 ° C and has a maximum sulfur content of 0.05% m / m. International standards for aircraft fuel is the British Standards Ministry of Defence, Defence Standard 91-90/latest issue (Aviation Gasoline 100/130), DERD 2485 and ASTM D 910, the Standard of Specification for Aviation Gasoline

While aviation kerosine is the fuel for the aircraft are already using turbine engine (turbojet, turbofan, or turboshaft). The more advanced turbine engines, aviation kerosine has been amended several times. The first type, Jet A, for example, is only suitable for early generation jet engine with the engine structure is still simple. The kind that's better than Jet A is Jet A-1 or commonly known as AVTUR (Aviation Turbine Fuel), this type of widely circulated and used commercial jet aircraft (either with the type of jet aircraft propulsion or propeller). In developed countries, kerosine Aviation Jet A-1 Jet B or given name is also popular with Avtag name. AVTUR is the fuel of the kerosene fraction that is designed as a fuel for aircraft using turbine engines or engine which has a combustion chamber external (External Combustion Engine). Performance / reliability AVTUR mainly determined by the characteristics of cleanliness, combustion, and its performance at low temperatures. Based on these specifications, AVTUR must meet the necessary requirements, like having a freezing point (freeze point) a maximum of -47 ° C and flash point (flash point) a minimum of 38 ° C (100 ° F).

Know the Tower Air Traffic Controller's

figure via freakingnews

figure via arstechnica

In previous articles we have discussed about the history of the aircraft until its use in the history of human life. But do we control air traffic in order to ensure the security and flight safety. When we look around the airport must have one tower which is equipped by radar. You're right! Air traffic controller's tower (ATC). They are "extra eyes pilot. We know that the landing or taking off a tense moment in the world of aviation. it also had experienced the first inventor of the Wright brothers' plane when the first flight witnessed the practice of American citizens. It was one of the flight were killed when landing. Fortunately wright survived during the incident. If the critical period in which moments of landing and takeoff exceeded smoothly, we will lift the cap on the pilot. Though there are other officers who deserves saying "thank you". They are the official air traffic controllers (ATC).

Although its "only" guide but ATC officer responsibilities, including large. ATC officers are like "extra eyes" for the pilot. However the point of view is very limited pilot in the cockpit. While the speed-controlled airplane is so high. So, without their help, death could have come over.

Not only at the beginning or end of the journey, ATC officers also guide the aircraft while flying in the sky. Events in Denver may be an example to us how important the role of the ATC. At that time, Piper Cheyene reported its position at an altitude of 7800 feet. But the ATC officer was being negligent and did not inform these positions to other aircraft. At the same altitude a Cessna-172 aircraft flying in opposite directions collided with a Piper Cheyene end it. Another example is Taiwan fighter plane that almost crashed (nearmiss) Trans Asia Airways plane when they flew over the island of Penghu, Taiwan, West. Formation-flying fighter jets that cut civic trajectory flight path just behind the ATR-72 owned by Trans Asia. Both distance approximately 300 meters. According to the Civil Aeronautics of Taiwan, the incident was allegedly due to errors in understanding the military ATC flight data submitted civilian ATC.

When you see the description above is very clear that the responsibility for ATC personnel did not lose weight compared with the pilot. Naturally when roads become impassable for ATC officer was very long and heavy. A minimum of ATC officers must understand the whole system and procedures for airport and ATC has a license from the airport where he did on the job TRAINNING. Many tests that must be passed by an officer of ATC.

From his office, ATC personnel control aircraft will land or take off one after another. When the plane will take off, officials at the ATC radar room and control room monitor, reading a copy of the aircraft flight plan. They asked for a plane that is being lined up to immediately get ready. Field Supervisor directs the aircraft toward the runway (runway proper.) Airport conditions, such as weather, wind speed and direction as well as read to the pilot's visibility.

figure via flightschoollist

Through the radar, ATC officials led pilots through lane between hangars, page up and down passengers into and out of plane (apron), and tip the aircraft flight lanes. Then the officer in the ATC control tower notify enroute controllers (ATC officers who guide the planes from the airport of origin to arrive at the destination airport, the numbers 2-3 people) to take over the lead aircraft. If the path is empty (clear), ATC officers will direct the pilot to enter the runway (runway). If the field is being used, the pilot must slow the rate of flight. He will be re-contacted the control tower when it approached the runway. Once the plane managed to fly the officers at the departure ATC will direct the plane towards the destination while reading the directions and altitude aircraft. Each team controls each axis of airports for aircraft that are airborne. For example, team A control of the aircraft that is between 30-100 miles north of the airport and flying at a height (altitude) between 6000 and 18,000 feet, while the B team to control the aircraft in the other hemisphere with different heights.

In the case of landing, the plane is monitored until the end point of landing. Just as guiding aircraft takeoff, ATC officer will inform the aircraft that will go into the control area, weather conditions and accidents that may occur. Officers on the ground and directing it toward the taxiway (the road from the apron to the runway), to enter the gate (gate) that have been determined.

If there are several planes that will be ingrained in the place, time and altitude are nearly equal, the ATC officer can ask one of the aircraft to alter its flight plan. Likewise if the pilot suddenly wanted to change his flight plan, ATC team initially able to contact other team to guide the pilot to land. If the situation is not possible for example due to bad weather, the ATC officer also could delay the flight departure. This was done solely for the safety of crew and passengers

History of flight

Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright. figure via solarnavigator

The first flight test of history. figure via allposters

Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867, disebuah farm in Indiana, United States. Meanwhile, following Orville was born on August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio. They are the third and fourth sons of Milton and Susan Wright. Wilbur Wright and his family settled in Dayton, the house where Orville was born. Childhood Wilbur and Orville Wright are not extraordinary. They go to school like other children, and sometimes they play hooky. Although Wilbur and Orville Wright as a child to work, play and think together, but in fact they have different properties than the range of ages. Wilbur Wright would rather busy themselves, exercising or reading. In terms of school achievement Wilbur is more advanced. Although both are equally intelligent, but Wilbur is more diligent and enjoyed learning the Greek language and Mathematics. Orville was smart, but she dissidents. This property is often brought on difficulties so that he once kicked out of school.

At one time, Orville, who liked to make the kite has been replaced with a predilection in the field of printing. Together with his friend, Orville set up a small printing press. Self-made printing machines, and one of the prints at the time was kwintasi payments offered to shops all over Dayton. Business cooperation was so successful that Orville had said that for his future, he will pursue that field. From the nature of the two as if the thinker Wilbur and Orville the prospective entrepreneur, will take their lives. However, there was something then change their way of life forever.

In 1889, Susan Wright died. After Susan died, the house that previously quiet slowly returned to normal because the position has been replaced by Susan's daughter, Katharine. Although Katharine youngest child, he was able to act as housekeeper for her father, Orville and Wilbur who slowly gain health back. Meanwhile, Orville and Wilbur will eventually feel that the gap between them has been docked on its own. They liked the same things, they also thought the same pattern. Even in the fierce debate anything, they speak the 'language' the same. They were of one heart and one soul almost in all things, and this continues into old age.

In 1892, Wilbur and Orville built a bike company that is named Wright Cycle Company. At first, they are just selling a bike, but when the business began to advance, they began making his own bicycle repair and sell services as well. In 1896, they were attracted to the German engineer Otto Lilienthal, who tried to develop new means of transportation, and the experiments tried was flying. At that time people have been flown using a balloon, more than a century earlier. But Lilienthal made different experiments. He tried to fly with a machine that is heavier than air. Although Lilienthal not the first person in the experiment.
Earlier also, when the first balloons were flown, which is when an English nobleman, Sir George Cayley, began a series of experiments. In 1809, Cayley began publishing its findings, one of his works are On Aerial Navigation. Cayley flight revealed more severe than the air in a sentence that later became famous. He pointed out that expanding the wings of a bird against the wind. When a bird flew into the front, its wings against the wind with a small angle. And wind, which in this relationship as moving horizontally, working on an angled surface such that it causes the bird lifted. That is, the wind moving it serves to support the weight of the bird.

Interest in Cayley against flying machine heavier than air and then transmitted to the Willam Henson, a textile engineer. In 1842, Henson spoke about the power throws. In his writings, Henson said that a body is lightweight and flat, or nearly flat, thrown to the side in a position slightly tilted, the object will be lifted on its own. The item will continue to rise as long as two conditions were met. The front edge should be slightly higher than the rear edge, and the power that drives the future must remain there. At that time the factories after the Industrial Revolution using the energy derived from steam. Therefore, in 1840, Henson made the design a flying machine which he called 'Flying Steam Train'. Although a breakthrough at that time but the design Henson failed to fly.

Experiments conducted by the scientists are adding a strong interest in the Wright brothers to solve the puzzle of flight. They seek a variety of reference, and in 1899, Wilbur finally sent a letter to the famous Smithsonian Institution in Whoshington. Research institutes are sending their reading material that covers almost all written documents about the mechanics of flight. Like the students who will face the exam, the Wright brothers to his books in front of them to learn everything. It was not one scientist who worked and it increased the Wright brothers' passion to learn, try and answer his own puzzle of flight.
Balance problems into initial question to be solved because the Wright brothers Lilienthal died of failing to control the balance of his flying machine. Finally they found something that has not been tried by others. They have varying wing shape during flight. Wright argues that, if the flying machine on your left, the left wing will be lower than the right wing. However, if the wing shape can be changed, then the left wing can be changed in such a way that terjangnya angle greater than the right wing. Angle lunge larger produce greater lift as well. Thus, the left wing will be lifted up while going down the right wing. In this way the plane will fly again balanced.

For years the Wright brothers experimented for these ideas into reality. During July and August 1899, they make a kite''two-level''that resembled a box. The length of the wing is nearly two meters and is equipped with a rope tied to its ends. Depending on how interesting the rope. One end of the double winged kite that will go down. The idea that would underlie the aircraft control system to date.
Lack of publications considered by the Wright brothers as a blessing. Because then they can continue flying activities without interruption. They can make "Flayer I, II, III". Attention of the Europeans towards the success of Wright's not the American people, the place where they were born. Attention of the Europeans are very big on Wright brothers' plane creation.

Kitty Hawk is a historic place where the Wright brothers spent many years to devote his ideas, ranging from the wing to the engine. Finally a machine that is heavier than air flight. Eskperimen they finally succeeded. But not everyone will care about their success, even those near where they were experimenting. Most people do not realize the differences between flight performance and achievements of the Brazilian aviator flight from their own hometown. Santos - Dumont flew the flying machine is lighter than air the most recent version, which is a balloon that is equipped with a motor. While the Wright brothers' plane was the first vehicle that is heavier than air, self-powered, and can be steered by the passenger, who managed to fly. The Wright brothers had created and flew the first airplane in the world.

On August 8, 1908, the Wright brothers flew the first demonstration launch in Europe, specifically in France. When the Wright brothers' fame began to rise. Bright brothers received many contracts, ranging from increasing the aircraft's pilots to train. Wright brothers fame eventually spread to his birthplace, America. American armed forces offered a contract to the Wright brothers.

Increasingly, the plane - the plane the Wright brothers not only used to supplement the army. The planes that are not used in a war that can be used as commercial aircraft used by the general public.
The existence of the plane created by the Wright brothers made the world become interconnected with each other. People could move so quickly. The Wright brothers could make the world a little. Services in the Wright brothers deserve recalled by the entire population of the world. In modern times many, many varieties / types of aircraft that we can see, both manned and unmanned aircraft.
